The past several years have been incredibly difficult for the healthcare industry. With the Covid pandemic and the ensuing healthcare, economic, and staffing challenges, hospital systems have struggled with a myriad of issues. Freeport Health Network (FHN) has done a tremendous job not only surviving, but thriving and innovating during times of challenge.

FHN has created innovative training programs to help individuals learn the skills they need and progress in the health care industry. FHN has created apprenticeship programs, open to new employees as well as current staff, to provide opportunity and solve staffing and retention challenges. They have developed a number of innovative apprenticeship programs to teach individuals the skills needed to progress in the healthcare industry, as well as earn a livable while in training. These innovative programs have opened up opportunities for adult learners who can’t pause the realities of life and finances to attend full time training. FHN has successfully worked with many individuals to provide apprenticeship opportunities for pharmacy technicians and for certified medical assistants.

FHN has worked in partnership with The Workforce Connection to recruit individuals for these programs and ensure the community is aware of these innovative programs. Additionally, The Workforce Connection has been able to leverage funds for individuals to obtain this training. We have partnered to enroll individuals in WIOA  services as well as help upskill a number of employees through incumbent worker training.

FHN’s leadership comes at a critical time for the healthcare industry. Their innovative programs continue to grow and provide a model for other healthcare organizations and industries.
