Kaylee
Kaylee began her career as a CNA and then found it wasn’t challenging enough for her. She wanted to do more and help more. Kaylee then worked as a medical assistant, still wanting more, but she also loved the job. She obtained her LPN in July of 2023, and then started her RN in August 2023.
It took Kaylee some time to gain the courage to go back to school. She wondered how she was going to pay for school and raise her children. Kaylee’s biggest barriers were money and time.
Kaylee says, “Nursing school takes up A LOT of your time every single day. There was no way I could have worked full time, gone to school, and stayed sane.”
Overcoming that obstacle involved asking for help. Kaylee gained help from WIOA and her family — financially and mentally — to make it through these last two years. Finding the time to study while still running a household and working was difficult, but Kaylee persevered. Kaylee’s motivation was to pursue her education for her children. She wanted them to see what hard work looked like after it was all said and done.
On June 28, 2024, Kaylee graduated from Hannibal LaGrange University. She is currently working as a Registered Nurse at Quincy Medical Group in the allergy department.
Kaylee says, “It is not easy going back to school, and I will not pretend it is. You will question why you are even putting yourself through this and is it even worth it. It is, it is worth it once you are done. You will feel like you have accomplished so much, because you have!”
“During my experience, I questioned a lot of things as I was going through this program. I thought about giving up so many times but having people rooting for you and pushing you to make it through is the only way I did make it through,” Kaylee adds.
