Krysty

When Kankakee Community College referred Kristy to our WIOA office, she was a single mother-of-two and had been newly accepted into the Registered Nursing program. She needed our training assistance to help her finance the program.

Kristy had already been through a surgical technology program at Prairie State College in Illinois, and already had earned many college credits. Each semester, she would have to battle the financial aid process because they would deny her request due to the large number of credits without a degree. Our assistance with books, tuition, mileage reimbursement, and supplies was a welcome relief for Kristy. She was a very busy student, working in the home healthcare industry all while attending school.

She stayed in contact with her career planner, regularly turning in attendance on time and sending email updates about her crazy schedule. Kristy was not afraid to ask questions or advocate for herself and she took pride in her education.

Kristy completed her Associate in Applied Science Registered Nursing degree at Kankakee Community College in December, but needed to attend the graduation ceremony held in May. She says, “After all this, you best believe I’m cat-walking that stage!”

Kristy entered our program earning $10.50 per hour and is now earning $25.00 per hour working at a position that she loves.
