Aderion came to the Workforce Development Center in Danville in March of 2018. He was referred to our office through the Illinois Department of Human Services Division of Rehabilitation Services (DHS-DRS) and Worksource Enterprises, a local service provider for DRS. He had been out of work for several years, but was eager to return to the workforce. Aderion had previously worked in as a custodian for Chicago Public Schools, but had not found employment since relocating to Danville. Aderion contacted the Danville DRS office and received training to refresh his custodial skills, and was looking for a chance to prove his abilities to an employer. Vermilion County Works staff met with Aderion and his DRS case manager, and was able to offer him a work experience placement as a custodian at the American Job Center through the WIOA Adult program. During the work experience, he was able to utilize the skills that he had covered in his training. He also received assistance on completing job applications, developing his resume, and working on interview skills during his work experience.
After successfully completing his work experience, Aderion applied for a custodial job at the Danville Public Library. His experience working at the AJC was important in helping him obtain a permanent position with the library in July of 2018. He is proud of his accomplishments and happy to have had the chance to return to the workforce after several years.
