My name is Kenyota Hudson. I am 32 years old. Workforce Investment Solutions has been my support throughout my journey to become a registered nurse. WIS in a way became my family. When I needed help, I could always reach out to my career planner. My career planner, Sherrie Manney, has been my biggest supporter even before I was accepted into the program. She would always make sure I received the help I needed. Starting with being connected with Project Read Plus. When I was told that I should go to Project Read Plus to get help increasing my test score I was unsure. At first, I really considered not going back to school because I felt like this was another obstacle placed in front of me. However, Mrs. Manney ensured me that Project Read Plus would help build upon the areas I needed.
After I finished that program, I had added tools that I was able to use while attending Richland Community College ADN program. Not only did Workforce Solutions help me to stay on track, it always helped me to stay organized. This program helped me to become more responsible. With the help of the staff and workshops, I was provided with extra support to finish college strong. I really enjoyed the resume building workshop. Previously I had created a resume however, this workshop helped me to create a more professional resume.
At various points while attending school I felt discouraged, but my career planner Mrs. Manney, made sure to uplift me. My experience with my career planner was always great. No matter the questions I had she would always provide me with the answers. There was never a time I felt I was bothering her. If she did not know something she would let me know she would look into it and get back to me. Mrs. Manney, outside of my family and friends, was the one person who I feel genuinely cared about my success.
The services that assisted me to become a registered nurse were TABE test, Project Read Plus, child care expenses, tutoring, college book fees and other school expenses. I also had the opportunity to attend the workshops. Looking back, being a part of Workforce Investment Solutions I would definitely recommend it to others.
This program has really changed my life. It has allowed me to get through college without being in debt. It decreased my stress level of having to pay for childcare while attending school. I am now able to provide a better life for my two children with the help of Workforce.
After I completed all my requirements for school I took my NCLEX exam. I was extremely nervous. Workforce provided me with an online test preparation and practice test website. So, after all my hard work and Workforce backing me up, I passed my NCLEX and I am officially a Registered Nurse. I am so blessed to have been offered a job working at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur, IL, on the Medical Surgical unit. None of this would have been possible if I didn’t have the help of the staff at Workforce Investment Solutions.
