David is a 40‐year‐old married man—father of two daughters ages 12 and 10, and a son age 8. David had worked odd jobs over the last 10 years, earning minimum wage and only working part‐time. David had been unemployed at the time of application, on food stamps and had little to no money coming in to pay the bills. David’s wife had been unable to work at the time as well. David had dropped out of high school at a very early age, but managed to get his GED in his adult life. David had always wanted to go to school, but could not afford it.

David attended an orientation for the Manufacturing Skills I Certification—a 9‐week course through Lake Land College. This particular program would guarantee David a full‐time job at Mars Pet Care, with a starting wage of $17.00 per hour. After David was accepted into the program, he was certified to receive help through Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funding. David began classes on October 14th, 2019. To assist David with achieving his educational goals, C.E.F.S. helped David pay his tuition, book fees, supplies, and mileage reimbursement.

David was very respectful, kind, punctual and just an all‐around nice guy. While in training, David would be at the classroom doors waiting for his instructors every morning, ready to go. David told them he wanted to get there before class started in case he had any questions to ask them, instead of interrupting class time. There were times that David would stop what he was doing in class to go over and help a fellow classmate with their work. The instructors stated that David was always the first one there in the morning and the last one to leave after class.

David completed the program on December 13th, 2019. David continues to go above and beyond for his family, friends, and co‐workers. He now has a full‐time job earning $17.00 per hour that includes health, dental, and vision insurance. David definitely developed more confidence, understanding, drive, and a more open mind after he completed the program. His life has changed drastically, and many of his financial and daily struggles are gone. Through WIOA assistance, David earned a Manufacturing Certificate that will help him in his future jobs if he decides to move or change companies.

David is no longer limited on his ability to advance further in his education. He has come a long way and should be proud his hard work.
