Johnathan

Johnathan visited the Robinson Center seeking assistance after being “laid off” from a local manufacturing plant where he had worked as a mig-welder. Johnathan was interested in pursuing a more “in-demand” occupation and needed to upgrade his skills. Referred to the C.E.F.S./WIOA program by a former WIOA customer, Johnathan worked with his case manager to develop an employment plan. As a dislocated worker, Johnathan had a vision to overcome his situation. He dreamed of becoming a landscaping supervisor with hopes of opening up his own landscaping business. Johnathan enrolled in school to obtain a degree in horticulture. While enrolled in the program, he maintained a 4.0 GPA, and was one of 55 students to qualify for the Chief Executive Officers Academic Honors List.

After completing a licensing exam for pesticide usage and with his newly acquired knowledge, Johnathan finally opened up his dream business — the Porterville Christmas Tree Farm! He currently has a greenhouse, sales shed, and other equipment that allows his business to run successfully. Johnathan sells garden plants, pumpkins, and is looking forward to selling Christmas trees someday. From manufacturing indoors, to becoming an “out-of-doors” entrepreneur, Johnathan has crossed the bridge of careers. He looks forward to helping others in the coming years, sharing his knowledge through learning sessions for youth and other members of the community!
