Miranda

Miranda was a very dedicated student. She attended Beck school of Nursing and graduated June 13th with her LPN. She maintained an A average throughout the entire program and missed very little class time. She finished at the top of her class. She wanted to go to school and to be a nurse. She did not have the support of her family. They felt schooling was unnecessary and told her that they would not assist her in any way. She moved out of her parents’ home and started a job working at Red Bud Regional Hospital and quickly received her CNA, making $12/hr. She met with me to consider getting her LPN. Her parents were very upset with her. She told me that she did not want to rely on someone else to support and take care of her.

With WIOA funding, we enrolled her in Beck and she started July 5, 2018. She continued to work part time while attending school. Once she received her LPN and passed the NCLEX exam she was offered a position at Red Bud Regional as an LPN, making $20/hr. She has accepted the position, however in the fall they have agreed to let her work PRN because she is going to start her pre-requisites to enter the RN program at SWIC. She said she doesn’t want to take a break, but that she just wants to keep going.

Her goal now is to work as much as possible to save up to help her pay for nursing school. Her family is even more upset now that she is continuing on to get her RN. She said that while she hates disappointing them, she really loves nursing and wants to help people. I am so proud of her. She is only 25 years old and to be that determined to not only complete the program without family support, but to complete it at the top of her class is amazing to me. Miranda loves camping and also doing missionary work with her church group.
