Alyssa
Alyssa is a true testimony to what the WIOA programs offer career seekers. Alyssa had been in the Elevate Youth program before and earned her High School Diploma, however, the timing wasn’t right and she wasn’t able to find a career that suited her needs. She came back to the program and was determined to do everything in her power to break through the barriers in her way. With the help of the program and staff, Alyssa was determined to explore options and find a career that was right for her.
Alyssa enrolled and took full advantage of the services offered and the expertise of her Career Planner. She attended Career Readiness Classes and decided that she wanted to get into the medical industry, ultimately working as a pediatric nurse. She set goals and determined that she would first earn her Medical Assistant Certificate. She needed some work experience, so she worked with her Career Planer and was able to get a paid work experience position performing customer service. She put the job on her resume, allowing her to apply for and get a job at a Pediatric Doctor’s office at the Front Desk! As she worked and gained experience in her field of choice, Alyssa was also able to attend school online in the evenings for her Medical Assistant program with the tuition paid by the WIOA Youth program. In the midst of it all, she became a new parent and still graduated early from her program! Alyssa shared that her, “Career planner believed in me more than I believed in myself. I’ll never forget how much this program saved me.”
Alyssa is a great role model for other youth and young adults who need to know they can accomplish their dreams with just a little help and resources to break down the walls and barriers that society has put up. We are so proud of Alyssa, who is now a very successful new mom and Certified Medical Assistant.
