Tamarius
Tamarius enrolled in the WIOA Youth Elevate program where he attended Career Readiness classes to gain employability skills and receive career guidance. Tamarius had a rough time at first since he was painfully shy. It was difficult for him to participate in required activities, such as mock job interviews. Youth Elevate staff worked with him to prepare and guide him through the process.
After Tamarius completed his Career Readiness classes, he enrolled in our math class at Workforce Connection and worked hard to improve his scores. In less than two weeks, he was able to increase his testing scores enough to enroll in standard-level GED classes. Tamarius obtained his GED certificate and, with financial assistance from Youth Elevate, enrolled in the TechWorks Manufacturing Training program offered by Rock Valley College.
After successful completion of the TechWorks program, Tamarius enrolled in an “On-the-Job Training” program at Leading Edge Hydraulics. He worked there for about seven months before being hired for a new full-time Mill Operator position at Concentric —another local manufacturing company.
Tamarius has received excellent reviews from all his programs and work positions. Recently, he bought his first car and house. His family is very thankful for the Youth Elevate program, since it has completely changed Tamarius’ life for the better.
